ACOD is set about 10 years in the future. Advanced technologies have begun appearing all over the world, coming from improbable sources, and some of this technology is being used to assassinate individuals, seemingly at random.

Right now, we’d be seeking artists who could contribute either cover art, supplemental artwork, or other works we could use to enhance the visual appeal of our RPG products. Pangenre RPG Robots: Androids, Cyborgs, and Robots, oh my!

Pangenre will be at Play-on-Con in Birmingham, AL at the last weekend in July 2011. We are currently planning on running 4 sessions based around our Pangenre RPG System, but we will have other games with us either for discussion or for play during open gaming.

We are putting together a basic, free version of the Pangenre RPG rules that will enable players and GMs to create basic characters and play around a little with the system. It is about 32 pages long. It is intended as a primer on Pangenre and to serve as a playable demo of the system. (Of course, to get all of the depth and detail, you need the full version.) The ETA is not yet solid, but it will be before Play-on-Con.

Pangenre RPG Robots is still in production. The final release ETA is not definable at this moment in history. But it is in the late stages of editing.

The first draft of the Alpha for the Pangenre RPG Adventures: Vegas Apocalypse landed in my inbox this week, and production will begin soon. The final ETA is too early to tell. For now, we’ll keep it ambiguous and say “2011.” The author’s (Frederick Noble) storyblog is still being updated weekly with new content.

Development work has continued in the following product areas:

- Pangenre RPG Robots (still no solid release date) had some additional testing done on its included scenario, Robot Apocalypse.

- The Second World War Expansion 1: Random Events is about 3 cards short of the full deck, and should see a release in Q2 2010.

- The Second World War v. 1.2 (tweaks to accomodate Expansion 1 and some map art enhancements) would be released concurrently with Expansion 1.

- Pangenre RPG Adventures: A Conspiracy of Dreamers Three missions have been developed for the open-ended, near-future mini-campaign, with two more under development.

- Pangenre RPG Adventures: Cold World War will be entering playtest soon. Your editor does not know what it will bring, but we’re given to understand that something happened to change history in about 1943.

- Pangenre RPG Adventures: Vegas Apocalypse Should be going into production soon, but we can’t even guess as to a release date yet.

The Random Events Expansion is a card-based system that will allow for the inclusion of some kinds of events that are beyond the scope of the grand strategic scale of the original game.

Events include such things as…

Early or expanded orders of battle based on early technological research.
Special events such as the U-47 attack on Scapa Flow.
Activation of otherwise neutral minor powers.

The expansion will include…

6 sheets of 10 cards, formatted for use with pre-cut business cards, for a total of 60 cards.
Rules for using the Expansion.
One sheet of optional units whose inclusion can be triggered by the event cards.

There is no current ETA for completion, but as soon as we know, it will be announced. The expected cost will be $2.00 USD for the downloadable PDF, but that is subject to change.

A version 1.11 errata update for the base game will be uploaded at the time of release. This will also include some minor map tweaks to enable some events (such as the creation of the Stalin Line fortifications).

Pangenre RPG: Androids, Robots, and Cyborgs has slipped its timeline. The design lead wants to focus the scope on “Large” and smaller robots. The reasons are many, but they include the fact that there was a lot of scope creep when we began looking at the multitude of options, especially considering that it would include technologies ranging from near-future to “XTech” (Really far-future). In short, it was getting too big.

Material descoped from the robots supplement will eventually appear in the Pangenre RPG Vehicles release (no ETA yet).

We’ve been playtesting some possible simplifications to the character system, and so far, the players like them. However, they would be sufficiently different that we could not merely release them as a patch for the Core Rules. They might form the basis for a second edition in 2012 or later.

We began playtesting a new, modern era (set in 2018) campaign scenario this month. We are evaluating it to see if it’s fun enough to fully develop and publish. Currently, it would be a campaign starter, with an introductory scenario, and two missions that advance the main plot. Beyond that, it would be open-ended, with enough information to allow GMs to take it in any direction they choose. The working title is “Conspiracy of Dreamers,” but that’s all we’ll say about it for now.

We are also evaluating the possibility of publishing a set of “Weapon Cards” that can be handed out to players so that they do not have to write down all the Pangenre weapon characteristics on their character sheets. (Also makes it easy to tell what kind of heat you are packing at any given time.) The file would be formatted for printing on pre-cut 3.5″ x 2″ business card stock, with 10 cards to a page. The cards would be compatible with the upcoming Pangenre Skirmish combat rules (no ETA).
