The Great Outback
Introduction
Eight-hundred years from now, love still makes people act stupid.
The Great Outback is a story about the crew of a small spaceship in the distant future. It is being presented free of charge for potential readers who can use it either as RPG scenario source material or simply read for the fun of it. Or pass the link on to your favorite producer!
The focus is on character development and interaction. It is not a, “traditional action-adventure space-opera,” but is instead more of a comedy-drama. First envisioned by the author in 1991, it could be described as a stylistic mix of Firefly (Fox), The X-Files (Fox), and Red Dwarf (BBC).
Coming Soon: Articles on how to handle specific in-game tasks within the context of this campaign scenario will be added.
Background Articles
These PDF articles (Spoiler Warning!) tell you more about the setting, characters, technologies, and related subjects, explaining many of the technological nuts and bolts and other details behind events in the story.
The Scripts
The Scripts were written for television. Most are two-act, 1/2-hour BBC format. Some have been "upconverted" to four-act, 1-hour US format. Additional edits since the original composition have ignored length restrictions, and may have some run time variability. 22 episodes are written.
Season One contains a story arc that follows the mysterious history of the courier ship CIS Daisy and character arcs for the main characters, "Ledge," Jones, Koko, and Amy, who unwittingly find themselves in the midst of a futuristic murder mystery.
Some additional material is in progress, but on the creative back burner unless something happens to monetize the existing stories.
